What To Expect

A “Cake Smash” session generally lasts approximately 30-45 minutes and takes place in my studio. We start with some regular portraits being taken of your child, capturing their many expressions before they get all messy! This gives them a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera and familiar with myself and their surroundings before we bring the cake out.

 What To Wear

The outfit your baby wears will be an important part of the photo session. We recommend that you choose a theme or colors first. Then choose clothing that complements the color of the decorations and cake. Some additional things to consider:

• White onsies and tutus/pettiskirts always photograph well. We recommend something simple with lots of skin showing to get messy.
• Accessories such as bows, ribbons or fun ties and necklaces can add interest to your photos. 
• If you choose to leave your baby mostly undressed for the session, remember that a cute diaper cover will be more attractive than a disposable diaper alone.
• ETSY has a HUGE selection of cake smash outifts to choose from, if you need help finding something I would be more than happy to assist.

 What To Bring

• Wipes and extra diapers
• Some of your childs favorite toys to get their attention and to smile.
• Small snacks such as puffs, cheerios, blueberries, etc. to put around the cake if they are not showing interest.
• Please remember to bring a drink for your little one; cake eating is a thirsty business.
• Cake smashing can get very messy for you too, so remember to bring a spare set of clothes for yourself just in case.
• A towel, washcloth and baby wash if you choose to do the bubble bath cleanup. 

IMPORTANT:

Due to the nature of this session, and the supplies used, once this session starts it cannot be stopped. Payment is due in full for your cake smash package the day of the session regardless of the outcome (smiles, tears, smashed cake or barely touched cake). 

Both parents are welcome, but because of the limited space, please do not bring additional people (including other children) to the smash. The session is for ONE subject only, however if you have twins {or more} they are included in the smash!

Retainer is due to book, and remaining balance due day of the session before we begin. If you cancel/reschedule this session within 24 hours or less before your scheduled appointment time, you will lose your retainer, no exceptions. 

 Note:If you are planning to use these photos as invites for a birthday party, I would suggest doing the cake smash about 4-6 weeks before the birthday party to allow time for me to edit the photos and to give yourself time to create/send out the invites. If you don’t need the photos for a party, the session can be done closer to their 12 month birthday if you prefer.
